A single strap of vegetable-tanned leather with a roller buckle and a welded D-ring, which is the whole design and there is not much to add. It will darken with wear and with the oil off a coat, and the holes will not tear out, because the leather is thick enough and the holes are punched rather than cut.

Materials
3.5mm vegetable-tanned cowhide, solid brass roller buckle, cast steel welded D-ring, copper rivets backing the stitching at the fold. Vegetable-tanned rather than chrome because it takes wear and weather as colour instead of cracking.
Care
Let it dry naturally if it gets soaked, away from a radiator. A neutral balm twice a year keeps it supple. It will smell like a dog eventually and there is nothing to be done about that.
